University of London’s Royal Holloway College Chapel

Housed in one of the most spectacular university buildings in the world, the non-denominational Royal College Chapel at the University of London boasts particularly rich acoustics and is home to one of the finest mixed-voice choirs in the country.

Whitwam AVI was asked to design and install a discrete touch screen-controlled sound system consisting of very low profile column speakers in the Nave and cabinet speakers in the north and south side Chapels. Comprehensive microphone facilities are provided in the form of gooseneck microphones with wireless transmitter and three pocket radio microphones, along with five microphone connection points. An induction loop system is also installed for the hard of hearing. The touch screen control system has connection points located in the choir stalls and enables the selection of loudspeaker zones, radio microphone on/off switching, microphone socket on/off control, induction loop hearing system on/off switching, control of the music microphone and all volume levels. Improving the visual facilities is a high definition four camera pan-tilt-zoom webcast and recording system. The camera control unit, vision mixer and associated equipment are installed in the organ loft.
